The new miniatures for RoW have arrived:
Reign of Winter miniatures |
Zaaz, Sadobras and mount, Dalomar, Yoska, and Noname. (click to view larger)
The miniatures were shipped to Navin at https://paintedfigs.com in Sri Lanka a while back for painting, and they arrived back in time for this latest session (the two figures on the right were not painted by them, the four on the left were). The price was great (came out to around $10 a figure) and the quality was spot on (we did "exhibition" quality). They allowed us to have some input and view the figs during the process, and after ok'ing them they were shipped back to us. It does take a while obviously to get there and back, but if you're not in a big rush it was worth the wait. When you ship the minis to them you ship to a US based "hub" address and that person fwds them to Navin at Painted Figs. They also have a newer site that has figures for sale that they've already painted that are ready to be shipped to the States or wherever: https://paintedrpgminis.com
Reign of Winter Session #6 (The Snows of Summer):
Valisisa´s Doll - Migue Regodon |
Battle in the show with the ice mephit and it's air elemental companion |
DM bullet point summation:
• The group continued along the path deeper into the forest which grew colder with the unseasonable winter that had fallen upon it.• The party was attacked by some very territorial Frost Firs in the middle of the night.
• They disarmed the remaining bear traps that the fallen farmer/hunter had been using to try to trap the giant weasel. It appears his trap had temporarily snagged something but it had gotten away.
• The party came upon the clearing with he hut, the stage snow/ice formations and the doll in the chair as the farmer had written about. They encountered the spirit of a small child in the maze of ice blocks that looked very similar to the doll in the hut. The little girl spirit would say random things to the group and then run off again and would rarely engage in conversation. Some of the things she said: "I'm so sorry, I never meant to call you names"...."Please don't keep me here, it's cold and I miss my mother"....and "I don't want your stupid doll, take me back home!"
• The doll seemed inanimate, but strange occurrences were happening around it. When Yoska attempted to hold it under it's foot as they talked of dismantling it, it flew up into the air and began casting spells and attacking. After a bit of a battle they were able to defeat the doll, take out it's precious gemstone eye, and burn the rest of it.
• They were attacked by the hungry wounded weasel, and did away with it.
• During another evening's rest they came under attack by an air elemental and a small flying ice mephit that looked super nasty. It was a bit of a battle but they eventually defeated them both and burned the body of the evil mephit that kept regenerating.
From the journal of Zaaz Bloodfortune
The cold is getting more sharp. Growing up with this cold, I can stand it, but I begin to fear for Grr. The cold makes him sleepy and I have naught but the warmth of my body to warm him. Perhaps a sweater.. Must think on it. Don’t make much sense though. Grr is the embodiment of my link to the spirits. He was sent to me to be my conduit. Are they daft to send a cold blooded beast? Quiet you.. You spirits talk to me, but ya don’t own me thoughts. I’ll call ya anything I please..
We continued trekking through the snow and ice to see if we could have done with the dead raiser. His tracks, or the tracks of the horse we believe him on go deeper and deeper into the wilderness. The weather has been clear but as I said, more biting. I say we, but actually Sadobras is a bit under the weather. Something he ate I think and off to the woods with the trots is he. We found a good place for him to hole up and he urged us on, saying he would catch us quickly on his cat when he felt better. Loathe we were to leave him, but on we went uneventfully. At the end of the day we found a likely place and made camp. I took last watch to have a chance to commune with Grr as we approached the dawn. It wasn’t quite my watch yet and I slept soundly when suddenly quick as a wink as Noname was on watch, a stick… A frosty stick I tell you, rushed into the camp and threw a load of snow onto our fire. Well, the hiss of it and Noname’s query to the strange beast woke the rest of us. When I woke, what did I see, but not just Noname confronting it, but some thin hatchet of a man? Creature? Whowazits I know not, standing with a hatchet at his side. The creature attacked and in came a few of his friends, branches of the same family I tell you, and the battle was on. What do you mean it’s not funny. Made me laugh and that’s what’s important you voices. I brought up some light so we could all see and fought them we did. Fearsome cold they were covered in ice and a strange sap. If you fought with them you were as like to get covered with the stuff. After a few minutes they were down to kindling and we used them to build back up the fire. The wand of healing we bought was certainly coming in handy. Without we’d have been forced to camp a few days or journey back to town. In the morning we was fit again and tracked them back to their glade we did. Found evidence of little ones that had scattered, but decided it a problem for another day. Sharp eyed Dalomar spotted a fallen log that under it had a bit of treasure so it wasn’t a total loss.
We journeyed on down the path and after a time came to a narrow spot. Likely place for an ambush thought Dalomar and so taking his time his sharp eyes again were helpful. He spotted a bit of blood and shiny bits under the snow and recognized the location as matching the map we had pulled from the weasel hunter earlier. Taking his time and probing with a stick he found a number of bear traps spread about. We came up and triggered them all one by one to take with us.
Walking along we came to a clearing with a strange hut, likely the one that weasel hunter mentioned in his journal. As Dalomar came close, an apparition of a little girl came and went. Strange little girl dressed for the north as if she was Ulfen. We came up close and received warnings from her. The strange sprit told us she was Thora Petzka, daughter of Nadya and that she had been captured by the witch Nazhena. After a moment or two she popped away again and was naught to be seen. As Dalomar and Yoska came closer they spotted a strange haunt of images. The girl, the dead, and other strangeness did like to shake their will, but strong of gizzard they were and they pushed past to the hut. The rest of us, aware to the danger did lower our eyes in respect to the power of the haunt. In the hut was an odd doll sitting on a chair gazing out the door. The eyes were as one of sapphire and one of a coin. The hut was also odd, sitting up a few feet on trunks that had been carved to look like bird legs and smelling strangely like asparagus. We came closer to the doll and I demanded of it to speak. Speak it did to tell me of our impending deaths, but nothing else of note. Yoska, loth to touch the foul doll did mage-hand it out close, but after a moment it seemed his clothing did appear soaked in blood and he put it down. Talk to it again we tried without luck and so we decided to have and end to it. As he put his foot down on the toy, it sprang to life and rose up into the air. Flying around us it blew down damage on Yoska and convinced Dalomar that it was his friend. Try and try we did, but the dang thing was flying around and difficult to damage. Finally, Noname managed to do a bit of damage to it and it fell to the ground. Taking out it’s eyes we saw one was indeed a sapphire and the other a small mirror as if to scry with. Breaking the mirror and destroying the rest of the doll we investigated the hut more and found nothing. Though Dalomar was inclined to torch the place, I argued it might be useful shelter on the way back and we continued our trek.
Down the road we came when suddenly we did see the weasel to which the hunter searched. Big and mean and lean it was and in a moment it was latched onto Dalomar drinking him to dry. Fought it hard and after a few more uses of my handy healing wand we had weasel for dinner and a great pelt for me to recline on in the wagon some day.
Nights seem to be a problem for us. Yes, I know we must attack the darkness sometimes. Quiet you! We made camp again and being sly and tricky we found a place up against some trees to make it likely trouble would come from one side. Then we spread on that side the bear traps we had found to be an unwelcome surprise to any who entered. I went to bed and woke at my watch, build up the fire a bit and communed with Grr. After a bit I told grr to get a bit more rest and waited for my watch to end when suddenly, not from the directly we hoped, in came a frosty air elemental again putting down the fire. I swear I’ll find a way to keep our fire lit you baddies! Taken aback I hit him with my burning hands, doing little, but waking the rest of the party. Just in time they did awake as soon the air elemental was joined by he who probably summoned it, a frost Mephit in a jaunty red and white hat. Battled and fought we did, but the damn Mephit was fast and high flying, and damage from regular weapons seemed to do little. After a few I was out cold and missed some of the combat. Yoska woke me with one of my potions and I was back into it soon. Back and forth the battle raged across the sky. I cursed at the beast trying to lower its defenses, doing some good and finally in the end a solid hit from Dalomar with his bow beat the devil from the sky. More use of the healing wand and naught to show in reward but a small, undersized hat.
Now we be cold and shivering and the day is dawning. As we go down into this valley colder still we get, perhaps we are close to the source of this strange weather. Sadobras has caught up to us with his mount and so together we go on….
